Silva Daskalakis Winery: Where Wine Production Becomes Mystagogy
ABOUT
Situated in the Heraklion Prefecture, specifically in the village of Siva, the Silva Daskalakis Winery is nestled within a Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) zone known as PDO Dafnes, notable for the Liatiko grape variety.
The Silva Winery's vineyards are spread both around the winery itself and in more distant locations, leading to variations in soil composition across the vineyards. This diversity in microclimates adds an extra layer of complexity to the final product.
At Daskalakis Winery, 5 different guided tours take place, for which it is necessary to make an appointment one day in advance.
The visitor has the opportunity to taste the wines of the winery in the tasting room and to see the areas where the wine is vinified and bottled.
Along with the tastings, there is the possibility of eating, upon request.
The tip of Local!
The winery derives its name, Silva, from the placename ‘Siva’ (si-wa), a reference to the god Shiva (akin to Dionysus), preserved within the ancient Hindu religion—the world's oldest living faith!
