Vafes: The historic village with the unique heritage
ABOUT
Vafes is located at an altitude of 210 meters on the foothills of the White Mountains, southwest of Vryses. In Vafes, visitors can see the old factory (olive mill), the 15th-century Church of the Holy Archangels, and the bridge over the Boutakas River, while on the slope south of the village lies the old settlement of Ahatzikia.
Vafes of Apokoronas is the only village in the Chania Prefecture that has been declared a historic preserved monument by the Ministry of Culture due to its significant history as a bastion of struggles and sacrifices for freedom, as well as its tradition and the magnificent local architecture.
