The Hellenistic ‘Kamara’: Legends and Stories

ABOUT

Here, where history intertwines with legends, amid the melodic flow of water in the surroundings, the inhabitants of Vrysses, Apokoronas, a picturesque village, have adorned the Hellenistic-Greek ‘Kamara’ —a bridge from Greco-Roman times—with captivating narratives.

Situated to the east of Vrysses, at the junction of the motorway with the bypass, Kamara was initially constructed using dry-laid blocks. However, after its collapse, it was reconstructed using a binder (lime mortar).

The bridge is considered one of the oldest in Crete.
