Lampiotes, Amari: A Beautiful Village with Traditional Architecture!
ABOUT
Lush greenery and flowing waters—these are two of the defining features of Lampiotes, a village in the Municipality of Amari.
Situated at an altitude of 340 meters, it lies approximately 20 km southeast of the Potamoi Dam. The village’s earliest reference dates back to a document from the Second Byzantine Period (1301 AD), and it is believed that it was settled by inhabitants of the ancient city of Lappa or Lampe, who were known as Lampiotes.
This is a charming village that still preserves elements of its traditional architecture. Visitors can admire a few old stone-built houses, though many of them now lie in ruins.
Entering the village from the east, the first sight is the single-nave, barrel-vaulted church of Saint Nicholas, with its ornate façade. Inside, visitors can still see 15th-century frescoes that have been well-preserved.
The village’s traditional festival is held every year on July 15, in honor of Saint Kyrikos.
