Chora Sfakion: A Place Brimming with the Spirit of Crete
ABOUT
Chora Sfakion serves as the administrative centre of the Municipality of Sfakia, which is the least densely populated municipality in Greece.
In addition to the renowned southern beaches of Chania, which use the port of Sfakia as their starting point, Chora Sfakion offers a blend of attractions, situated near the end of the Imbros Gorge.Sfakia revolves around the authentic traditions of Crete. This region boasts an array of hiking trails, delectable cuisine including the renowned Sfakian pies drizzled with honey, as well as the flavourful Sfakian ‘giachni’ with lamb, and rusks.
It's an isolated area enclosed by the rugged slopes of the White Mountains, and amidst these winding paths, you'll find shops, tavernas, places to grab a drink, and the occasional hotel.
If you're interested in exploring further afield, you can access Gavdos, as well as Marmara, Loutro, and Agia Roumeli by boat. Additionally, during the summer season, there are two daily bus connections from Chania.
