ABOUT
The hike commences from the pathway that leads to the gorge, situated below the modern settlement of Myli.
On the right-hand side, we come across the chapel of Agios Ioannis, nestled within the rocks. Continuing along the path, we cross a concrete bridge, and on the left, we arrive at Pano Myli (Upper Mills). Here, we'll find a charming taverna where we can gather information about the gorge, its history, as well as its diverse flora and fauna.
After approximately 200 metres, we come across the church of the Five Virgins on the right. Continuing on the path, once it transitions to a dirt trail, we'll encounter a restored mill after about 150 metres. Following the dirt path further will lead us to the bottom of the Myli Gorge in approximately 15 seconds. Here, we’ll find a collection of mills, accompanied by visible stone channels that supplied water to these mills in the past.
Continuing our journey, we arrive at the opposite side of the gorge in Kato Myli (Lower Mills), where we find a small church called Agia Paraskevi on our right. To reach the church, we pass under an arch of a dilapidated building, crossing the gorge along the way.
After approximately an hour of exploration, we’ll have covered the main portion of the gorge. To continue our journey, we take the left path (the right path leads to Xiro Chorio). We need to cross the small river to reach the opposite bank.
In just a brief 15-second ascent, we reach the main rural road of the gorge, which eventually leads to a paved asphalt road. After approximately 10 minutes, we reach the main road. At this point, we turn right (left leads back to Myli) and continue on our way for approximately 200 metres.
As we proceed, we encounter a neighbourhood adorned with new houses and a paddock for building materials. After descending for about five minutes, we arrive at a junction that leads to the main road if we turn left, while the motorway lies on our right. We continue our journey by following the trail under the bridge.
Upon reaching the junction, we make a left turn and choose the path that leads to the sea.

The tip of Local!
If time does not permit us to enjoy a swim, we have the option to take a bus from Perivolia to Rethymno or alternatively, we can opt to walk to the city alongside the coast.
