Kafeneio o Raftis: Famous for Its "Ofti" Potato!
ABOUT
Kafeneio o Raftis (The Tailor’s Café) owes its name to Giorgos Avgenakis, who established it in 1967 as both a café and a tailor shop. Today, a vintage sewing machine holds a place of honor among the tables, a nostalgic nod to its origins.
Now run by Giorgos' son, Vangelis, Kafeneio o Raftis remains a must-visit for those passing through Spili or heading to nearby beaches like Plakias or Agia Galini.
Here, you can sip on a raki, a beer, or whatever drink you fancy, while sampling traditional Cretan meze. Don't miss out on the artichokes with fava beans, pickled bulbs, fresh tomatoes, cucumber, olives, and feta cheese. The café is particularly famous for its ofti patata—delicious, roasted potatoes that are a true local specialty.
The tip of Local!
The outdoor seating area at Kafeneio o Raftis is accessible for people with disabilities, ensuring that everyone can enjoy the experience. Additionally, there’s convenient parking available nearby, making it easy to reach the café by car.
