The Natural Wonder: Sirikariano Gorge
ABOUT
The Sirikariano (or Sirikari) Gorge begins in Sirikari, winds its way through the Koustogiannides area, passes through the Sirikari district, and finally ends in Polyrrinia. Stretching over a distance of more than 20 kilometres, it has officially been designated as a National Park in recent years. The gorge is characterised by numerous steep and narrow sections, making the passage challenging in many places.
Simply taking a drive through the lush vegetation in this area will undoubtedly persuade you of its natural beauty. It's here that the two parallel gorges of Sirikari, namely Tsichliano in the west and Kioliano or Sirikariano in the east, originate and eventually lead to the village of Polyrrinia. This is where the ancient city of Polyrrinia once stood, and you can still find well-preserved city walls on its acropolis, situated atop a high hill with a commanding view of the Kissamos bay.
