Sitia Geopark

The history of the Earth has unfolded for thousands of years alongside the history of its people.

Human history may leave gaps and unexplored points, but in Sitia, the passage of time has been recorded down to the finest detail by the Earth itself. Its marks can be seen on the rocks, within the ravines, in the caves, and in its unique gorges.

In eastern Crete, the paths of humanity and the Earth intertwine and complement each other. The rich archaeological discoveries and the present, still pristine, life of the inhabitants reveal the traces of humanity. Meanwhile, the Earth reveals itself in each of the hundreds of points of geological interest in the area.

Visitors to the Sitia Natural Park can explore the parallel paths of human and geological landmarks, also known as 'geosites'.
