Nerokouros, Chania: Overlooking the Port of Souda
ABOUT
Just 5 km from Chania lies the village of Nerokouros. Nestled 90 meters above sea level, at the foothills of Mount Malaxa and the Aliganos mountain range, the village offers panoramic views stretching from Kolymvari to Souda Bay.
In 1976, during land clearing at the Metochi Agiou Georgiou area, on a plot owned by the Institute of Subtropical Plants and Olives of Chania, ruins were discovered. These remains were later identified as a well-preserved Minoan villa from the Middle Minoan period, featuring paved floors, multiple windows, and an upper floor. The site also revealed pottery and bronze artifacts.
