Foscolo Tower in Kenourio Chorio
ABOUT
During the final years of the Venetian occupation, Kenourio Chorio (Municipality of Hersonissos) was a fiefdom belonging to the Venetian Foscolo family. Today, the fortified residence known as the Tower of Andreas Foscolo (belonging to the Markantonios Foscolo branch of the family) still stands as a preserved structure. However, it is believed that a portion of the tower may have been demolished following an earthquake in 1926, as per local accounts.
The construction of the Tower of Andreas Foscolo predates 1600 AD, and despite experiencing partial collapse over time, its ground floor still stands with remarkable arches and domes within. The influences of reconstruction during the Turkish occupation are also evident in certain areas of the structure.
