The compass points to Stroumboulas and Almyros Gorge! On Sunday, January 12, members of the Heraklion Mountaineering Club will embark on their next adventure.
Route Details
“We start from the western side of Stroumboulas (450m) and follow the Marathianos Path to the summit, Timios Stavros (800m), where the chapel of the same name is located. After enjoying panoramic views of the entire Heraklion Gulf, we descend via the classic path on the eastern side of the mountain.
We pass through the Stroumboulas Plateau and reach the entrance to the Keri Forest. From there, we continue on rural roads that lead us to the Almyros Gorge. This significant natural habitat is a hidden gem—a small paradise located just a stone’s throw from our city, yet largely undiscovered by many. Our hike concludes on the road to Ellinoperamata.”
