Nea Alikarnassos is a small town next to Heraklion, largely inhabited by descendants of refugees who arrived from Asia Minor in 1922.

At its heart is the Church of Saint Nicholas, the town’s patron saint.

Each year, on December 6th, the town comes alive with celebrations, and schools and public offices close in honor of the saint.

If you’re looking for a special dining experience, 7 Thalasses is a must.

Known for its exceptional seafood, the sushi is the house specialty, and it’s highly recommended!

After your meal, drive or take a bus a little west toward Heraklion, where you’ll encounter the Heraklion Museum of Visual Arts.

This private space regularly hosts art exhibitions and is a great cultural stop on your way to the city.

Before you leave Heraklion, make sure to visit Macadamia on the road leading to the port.

Here, you can stock up on freshly roasted nuts and rare products like marmalades infused with alcohol—perfect, delicious souvenirs to remember your time in Crete!
