Peskesi: From the farm to your plate!
ABOUT
Peskesi is a restaurant that offers a deep dive into traditional Cretan cuisine, housed in the beautifully restored historic mansion of Captain Polyxigis. Nestled in the heart of Heraklion, the restaurant exudes a sense of serenity and warmth, with flavors and aromas that stay with you long after your meal.
Dining at Peskesi is a complete experience, not just a matter of taste. The goal is to immerse visitors in the philosophy of Cretan tradition, while also promoting the principles of sustainable gastronomy. Each dish is the result of extensive research into old recipes and forgotten ingredients that have been lovingly brought back to life.
All ingredients are either grown at Peskesi's own farm or sourced from selected Cretan producers, ensuring authenticity and quality.
Be sure to try the "pallikaria" salad, a dish tied to the island’s traditions. Traditionally eaten by Cretans on Epiphany Day, this hearty salad is made with a prayer for a bountiful harvest. Another must-try is the "manarolia with leeks", a nearly extinct legume that Peskesi has revived. And for dessert, indulge in the Cretan version of cheesecake, known here as "plakounta with honey and walnuts"—a sweet end to a memorable meal!
