Milatos: A Fishing Village of Great Beauty
ABOUT
In a charming fishing village, one thing is guaranteed: the tavernas serve the most delectable meze to accompany ouzo, cold beer, or raki.
Milatos offers a delightful combination of mountain and sea air, where visitors can revel in beautiful beaches and a rich natural landscape.
Milatos is a village steeped in rich history, with references that date back to the Homeric epics.
The history of the Milatos Cave is particularly remarkable. In February 1823, during the period of Turkish occupation, the cave became a tragic site where 2,000 women and children were martyred by Hassan Aga, who conducted widespread plundering throughout Lassithi. This sombre event has left a lasting imprint on the village's history.
