The Horn of Amalthea

ABOUT

Cretan tradition is directly linked to Greek mythology.

According to the myth, when Rhea gave birth to Zeus, she placed him in a cave located on Mount Ida in Crete. It was there that the goat Amalthea breastfed Zeus. One day, while playing with Amalthea, young Zeus broke off one of her horns. As a gesture of compensation and gratitude, Zeus blessed the broken horn, so that whoever possessed it could obtain anything they wished for. As a result, the horn of Amalthea became a permanent symbol of abundance.

The sculpture was designed and created by Nikos and Pantelis Sotiriadis in 2000.
