Eleftherna: In the Shadow of the Ancient City

ABOUT

Eleftherna is situated at an altitude of 370 metres on the northern slopes of Mt Psiloritis, and it's conveniently located within walking distance from the village of Margarites.

Today, there are remains and ruins from various historical periods of ancient Eleftherna's existence that are still preserved.

During the summer, Eleftherna comes alive, and the local archaeological museum draws numerous visitors to the area.

In fact, every October, the ‘rakokazana of Eleftherna’ festival (raki distillation party) is celebrated.

Presently, the village has preserved its pristine natural charm, with well-maintained houses, and as a traditional settlement, it distinguishes itself through its quaint neighbourhoods.

Throughout the summer season, Eleftherna springs to life as numerous young people choose the village as their vacation destination. They often gather at Tzanakaki Square, situated in the village's core and home to a bustling cultural centre. Eleftherna offers lodging options and tavernas for dining.
