Cobbled Streets and Neoclassical Buildings in Epano Archanes
ABOUT
Archanes is one of the most charming villages in Crete. The main settlement today is called Epano Archanes, distinguishing it from Kato Archanes, located one kilometre to the north.
The sacred mountain of Yiouchtas rises to the west.
Archanes is characterised by its neoclassical houses, and visitors can step back in time by strolling on its sidewalks, wandering through its picturesque cobbled streets, passing by charming lanterns, and admiring the beautifully restored mansions.
In Archanes, frescoed Christian churches coexist harmoniously with fountains and exquisite buildings dating back to the Ottoman era.
The visitor in Archanes has a wide range of choices for dining, entertainment, and lodging, while the shops in the alleyways of the Old Market are particularly appealing.
You can also venture into the scenic Paradisi Gorge.
