Armanogia Dam: A Haven for Migratory Birds
ABOUT
Crete offers numerous bird tourism destinations, providing ideal habitats for avian species.
Indeed, the Municipality of Archanes Asterousia has gained recognition as a birdwatching destination, particularly in the newly established wetlands of Damania (a tributary of the Anapodaris River), Armanogia, as well as in areas beyond the municipality's administrative boundaries such as Amourgelles, Ini-Macheras, and Partira. These wetland areas have become havens for observing a variety of bird species.
With a sprawling expanse covering 120 acres at an altitude of 380 metres, the Armanogia Dam has been a magnet for numerous bird species, particularly migratory birds, since its inception.
