Ardaktos: Discover the Story Behind Its Name!
ABOUT
Nestled between the settlements of Lochria and Platanos, Ardaktos boasts stunning views and a serene setting. According to local traditions, the village’s name has two possible origins. One suggests it was named after a wooden spindle crafted by a villager for the factory in Lochria. Another theory links the name to ardaktylina, a type of herbaceous plant that grows abundantly in the area.
The village likely dates back to the Byzantine period, as evidenced by the construction of the Church of Zoodochos Pigi during that era. During the Ottoman occupation, Ardaktos, like its neighboring villages, was home exclusively to Turkish inhabitants.
