A Theatrical Experience from 3,500 Years Ago

One of the most unforgettable experiences here is the Minoan Theatre, where history and mythology come to life in a spectacular performance. For horseback riding enthusiasts, nothing is more magical than riding through mountains and along the sea, taking in the breathtaking scenery and the unparalleled sense of freedom that nature provides.

The Minoan Theatre

At the heart of Amnisiades Park stands the Minoan Theatre, a remarkable creation built with passion and dedication by its founder, Anna Bastaki. This horseshoe-shaped theatre was constructed entirely by hand, with each stone carefully placed without being cut, fitting together naturally like a puzzle. With a capacity of 500 spectators, the theatre hosts three performances a week, offering a mesmerizing journey back 3,500 years to the Minoan era.

Before each performance, visitors are treated to a traditional welcome snack. Afterward, they participate in an interactive experience with the Thread of Ariadne.

The theatre’s performance is an invitation to the Palace of Knossos, where the Great Mother, the Goddess of Nature, is honored. Phaedra, the daughter of King Minos, welcomes the audience as Minoan men and women dance in tribute to the Goddess, celebrating harmony and gender equality. Spectators witness ancient bull-leaping rituals, where strength, endurance, and agility are tested in daring ceremonies. Dominating the stage is an ancient olive tree, a symbol of wisdom and life, bridging the past with the present.

Μινωικό θέατρο

Στην καρδιά του Πάρκου Αμνισιάδων, το Μινωικό Θέατρο στέκει ως ένα μοναδικό δημιούργημα, φτιαγμένο με μεράκι και αγάπη από την ιδιοκτήτρια κ. Άννα Μπαστάκη. Πρόκειται για ένα πεταλοειδές θέατρο, χτισμένο εξ ολοκλήρου με τα χέρια, όπου η πέτρα δεν σπάστηκε, αλλά κάθε κομμάτι της τοποθετήθηκε με τέχνη, «κουμπώνοντας» φυσικά το ένα πάνω στο άλλο. Με χωρητικότητα 500 θεατών, το θέατρο φιλοξενεί τρεις παραστάσεις την εβδομάδα, προσφέροντας μια καθηλωτική εμπειρία που ταξιδεύει το κοινό 3.500 χρόνια πίσω, στην εποχή των Μινωιτών. Πριν από κάθε παράσταση, οι επισκέπτες απολαμβάνουν ένα παραδοσιακό κέρασμα, ενώ μετά την παράσταση, συμμετέχουν σε μια διαδραστική δραστηριότητα με τον Μίτο της Αριάδνης.

Η παράσταση που φιλοξενείται στο Μινωικό Θέατρο είναι μια πρόσκληση στο παλάτι της Κνωσού, για να τιμηθεί η Μεγάλη Μητέρα, η Θεά της Φύσης. Η Φαίδρα, κόρη του βασιλιά Μίνωα, καλωσορίζει το κοινό, καθώς Μινωίτισσες και Μινωίτες χορεύουν προς τιμήν της Θεάς, αναδεικνύοντας την αρμονία και την ισότητα των φύλων. Οι θεατές γίνονται μάρτυρες των αρχαίων αγωνισμάτων με τον ταύρο, όπου η δύναμη, η αντοχή και η ευστροφία δοκιμάζονται σε επικίνδυνες τελετές. Horseback Riding in the Mountains and by the Sea

Starting from Amnisiades Park, home to the Cretan Equestrian Academy, visitors can embark on an unforgettable horseback riding adventure—whether drawn to the beauty of the mountains or the magic of the sea.

Saddle up and ride along scenic trails, immersing yourself in the wild beauty of Cretan nature. From high above, the Karteros Valley stretches out before you, offering breathtaking panoramic views. Feel the ultimate sense of freedom as you gallop beside the waves, the sea breeze carrying you away.

The experience lasts 60 minutes and is suitable for both beginners and experienced riders, always accompanied by a professional instructor. Children aged seven and above can participate in small groups of one to four riders. For everyone's safety, protective helmets are provided.
