The adventure begins at the Kourtaliotis Gorge access point, where you’ll descend the stone steps leading to the miraculous chapel of Saint Nicholas Kourtaliotis, carved into the rock. This tiny chapel is considered sacred by the locals.

For the more adventurous, there’s the option to descend the falls using techniques like canyoning or rappelling. These activities are led by certified guides, offering a thrilling and unforgettable experience.

The trek concludes at the beautiful Preveli Beach. The route takes you through the protected Preveli palm forest, one of Crete’s most unique natural attractions.

Upon reaching the beach, take a swim in the crystal-clear waters and relax. During the summer months, a beachside café offers coffee and light snacks to refresh yourself after the trek.

After the adventure, settle into Plakias for the night, a peaceful coastal town known for its traditional hospitality and wide range of accommodations.

We recommend the Apanemo taverna, located in a small cove.

Try the lamb chops and the famous garlic bread, a favorite among most customers.

The portions are particularly generous!

Day 2: Climbing in Plakias, Paligremnos, and the Village of Sellia

Start the day by visiting the impressive Paligremnos rock, which towers above Plakias Beach. Historically used as a natural fortress, Paligremnos offers exciting opportunities for rock climbing. With certified guides, you can safely try top rope climbing, making this a memorable and thrilling experience.

Next, head to the nearby village of Sellia, known for its famous Sellian feta cheese. Sample this delicious local product in one of the village’s traditional tavernas while indulging in fresh, local dishes from authentic Cretan cuisine.

You can dine at the family-run taverna Merastri.
Try the stewed beef, mizithra cheese rolls, and apaki!

Afterward, return to Plakias to unwind on one of its pristine beaches, such as Damnoni or Schinaria. Enjoy the crystal-clear waters and the natural beauty of Crete’s southern coast.
