Rural Women’s Cooperative “Asitiana Delicacies”
ABOUT
The village of Kato Asites, nestled in the hinterland of Heraklion Municipality, is a place full of traditional charm and authentic flavors. If you’re in the area, don’t miss the chance to visit the Rural Women’s Cooperative “Asitiana Delicacies”!
With a prior arrangement, you can watch the cooperative’s lively members at work, crafting their sweet creations, and take a guided tour of their facilities.
Stock up on their famous rusks and freshly baked bread. Indulge in their irresistible biscuits, like the signature “horseshoe” cookies, and enjoy seasonal treats such as melomakarona, kourabiedes, traditional Christmas bread, and kalitsounia.
And, of course, you can’t leave without trying Crete’s iconic xerotigana, a must-taste delight!
Founded in 2001, the cooperative now consists of six dedicated members.
The area also offers beautiful nature walks—take a stroll to the Gorge of Agios Antonios and wrap up your visit with a meal at a nearby taverna!
