The Impressive Agios Pavlos (St Paul's) Dunes
ABOUT
Located at the western end, very close to the main beach of Agios Pavlos in Rethymno, lies a true gem of the Libyan Sea—the Dunes of Agios Pavlos or Atsalogremni.
This beach boasts rare beauty, featuring imposing sand hills that rise from the depths and reach the surface. The absolute ‘must’ experience is during the afternoon hours at sunset, not only for the breath-taking view but also to avoid the hot sand that prevails during the day.
The beach lacks amenities and finding shade can be a challenge, but its wonderful sand, pristine blue waters, and unique surroundings make it an amazing and special place. Interestingly, many visitors not only enjoy swimming but also engage in playful activities among the dunes due to their distinctiveness and allure.
The easiest way to reach Ammolofoi is to follow the road southeast of Triopetra's port for 500 meters until you see the beach on your right. Alternatively, you can park your car at Agios Pavlos and walk for 5-10 minutes along the path that leads behind the western end of the beach.
Indeed, this dreamy beach with its breath-taking view is definitely worth a visit.
