The Ever-flowing Maris Fountain

ABOUT

The Maris Fountain, whose exact date of construction remains unknown, has perpetually flowed without interruption. Situated in the heart of Kissamos town, it is located adjacent to the historic centre and the traditional street Skalidi. To the east stands Maris Mansion, a two-story building of traditional architecture, representing one of the oldest structures in Kissamos. Maris Mansion, along with Villa Xagorari, served as the preferred accommodation for esteemed guests visiting the town, such as Prince George and Eleftherios Venizelos.

According to accounts, the four plane trees that once encircled the fountain were unfortunately felled by the Germans during their occupation, in order to create space for their trucks and large vehicles to pass through. Despite this loss, the fountain continues to stand as one of the most enchanting and tranquil spots within the town centre.
