Small Hydroelectric Station of Agia
ABOUT
At the artificial lake of Agia, near Chania, you have the chance to explore the fascinating world of renewable energy.
The Small Hydroelectric Station (SHES) of Agia tells the story of electricity production during a transformative era for Greece. From the days of oil lamps and the German Occupation to the end of World War II, the Marshall Plan, and the energy demands of the 21st century, this station reflects humanity's ongoing transition to Renewable Energy Sources (RES).
Visitors can explore a building that once generated electricity, complete with its preserved original machinery. You’ll also learn about other renewable energy methods through interactive exhibits, including physical samples (like wind turbines, photovoltaic panels, and geothermal valves), detailed explanatory boards, and a functional display of solar panels.
