Myrtia or Barbari: Kazantzakis' Village
ABOUT
If there's one place that can proudly claim a notable offspring, it's undoubtedly Myrtia, also known as Barbari, the village of Nikos Kazantzakis.
The Nikos Kazantzakis Museum is located in this area. It was founded by George Anemogiannis, who worked as a set and costume designer for Greek theatre.
In addition to its exhibition space, the museum also hosts a variety of events, with the most significant being the annual ‘Travelling’ festival held in July.
Aside from the frequent cultural events hosted in the village, visitors can delight in delectable cuisine at the local tavernas or enjoy their coffee and raki at the cafés.
This settlement has gained a reputation for its wine production that has lasted for seven centuries.
