Kritsotopoula Museum
ABOUT
A bloody tale lies behind the Folklore Museum of Kritsotopoula in Kritsa. The museum is housed in the original home of Rodanthi, also known as Kritsotopoula.
Rodanthi, the daughter of the chief priest of Kritsa, escaped from the Turk Hursit Pasha, who had taken her as his wife, by killing him. The story continues with Rodanthi dressed as a man, becoming a member of the guerrilla group of the Lassithi Plateau and fighting the Turks under the name Spanomanolis. She was wounded in one of the biggest battles of the time and her injury forced her to return to Kritsa, where her identity was revealed and where she eventually passed away. The museum boasts a number of exhibits shedding light on the way of life at the time.
