Kourtaliotiko Gorge
ABOUT
The Kourtaliotiko Gorge is carved between the Kouroupa and Xiro Oros mountains, spanning approximately 3 kilometres in length. It commences at the village of Koxare and culminates at Preveli Beach.
The gorge is traversed by the Kourtaliotis River, and the surrounding area is densely populated with palm trees, imparting an exotic and tropical ambiance.
Its name, Kourtaliotiko, is derived from the local dialect word ‘kurtala’, which translates to ‘applause’. This name likely originates from the sound of the wind echoing through the walls of the gorge, creating a resonance reminiscent of applause.
