Cave of Agia Fotini
ABOUT
Religious tradition is deeply intertwined with the Cave of Agia Fotini, which is situated southeast of the village of Avdou at an elevation of 760 metres.
Agia Fotini, in her quest for a serene and isolated setting to devote her life to God, encountered difficulties in finding the ideal place. In her time of need, the Virgin Mary graciously appeared to her in a divine vision. Through a miraculous act, the Virgin Mary touched the mountain and brought forth a cave in the rocky terrain, providing Agia Fotini with a sacred dwelling where she could reside and fulfil her spiritual journey.
The church of Agia Fotini celebrates its annual feast on the fourth Sunday after Easter, marked by a grand festival held in front of the Cave of Agia Fotini.
