Ambelos Gorge

ABOUT

Located southwest of the settlement of Gonies, approximately 1 kilometre from this region within the Municipality of Hersonissos, lies Ambelos Gorge.

The gorge can be conveniently accessed via a rural road that runs parallel to its entire length, following the course of the Aposelemis River.

Following the road that traverses the gorge southwards leads to Agarathiano at an altitude of approximately 600 metres. In this vicinity, within a short distance, lie three springs providing a consistent water supply throughout the year.

Ambelos Gorge, spanning approximately 2 kilometres in length, is frequented by both visitors and locals, primarily by car and less so on foot. This is because the road running through the gorge provides a direct route to the provincial road leading to the Lassithi Plateau. Along this route, travellers can also access the chapel of the Transfiguration of the Saviour (Afentis Christos) and the area known as Stoli, where the chapel of Agia Marina is situated.
