Anagennisi: The Cultural Association of Tzermiado

Their desire and determination to showcase their local cultural and heritage united them!

The Tzermiado Cultural Association ‘Anagennisi’ was initially established on 03/03/1980 in Tzermiado.

Since then, it has remained the sole active club in the Lassithi Plateau, dedicated to preserving and promoting local traditions.

In 2024, the association boasts a membership of 200 individuals.

Since 1996, every August, the association organises a three-day event known as the ‘Potato Festival’. It aims to highlight the region's primary agricultural product, which sustains much of the local population.

The three-day event kicks off on the first Friday following August with the following schedule: Cretan music groups entertain the crowds on Friday, followed by a folk programme on Saturday, and finally, theatrical events take place on Sunday.

Since 2022, the area has hosted a two-day festival named ‘The Kronion Festival’, aimed at spotlighting the cave known as ‘Kronio’ or alternatively ‘Trapeza Cave’.

At the festival, visitors have the chance to enjoy a variety of activities, including a concert featuring artists who perform traditional folk music, alongside mountain running events that attract athletes from all over Greece.

The route is certified by the International Skyrunning Federation (I.S.F.).

It should be noted that throughout the year, various initiatives are undertaken to promote the culture and traditions of the region.
