The secluded beach of Karoumes sits on the east coast of the province, and visitors can access it either by boat or by embarking on a 40-minute hike from the Chochlakies Gorge.

Starting from the settlement of Chochlakies, situated 8 kilometres south of Palekastro and 26 kilometres from Sitia, a fantastic and easily accessible gorge awaits. After a 1.5-hour hike, you'll find yourself at the pristine and picturesque bay of Karoumes.

Additionally, a marvellous route commences from the settlement of Agathias, located 1 kilometre east of Palekastro. The trail passes through Platyvola and the beach of Skinias before culminating at Karoumes after approximately 2.5 hours of hiking. One of the remarkable aspects of Karoumes is its untouched state, as there are no rural roads leading directly to this serene location, preserving its natural beauty and seclusion.
